The Application of Magnesia Chrome Brick in the Glass Furnace

A glass furnace is mainly composed of melting zone, cooling zone, burner and regenerator. The regenerator is connected with the melting zone through the burner and recovers waste heat with checker work. The main factors that affect the service life of glass furnaces are the corrosion resistance of the refractory bricks in the melting zone and the regenerator. The magnesia chrome brick has been used in the glass furnace for hundreds of years. It is still the main masonry materials for glass furnaces. 

Magnesia chrome brick is made of sintered magnesia, fused magnesia, magnesium chrome synthetic sand and chrome ore by batching, kneading, molding in a friction screw press or hydraulic molding machine and firing in the high-temperature tunnel kiln. 

 

According to the raw materials and firing temperature, magnesia chrome brick is controlled within 1600-1750℃. Magnesia chrome bick can be divided into common magnesia chrome brick, semi-direct bonded magnesia chrome brick, direct bonded magnesia chrome brick and rebounded magnesia chrome brick. 

 

Magnesia chrome brick has high refractoriness, low impurity content, high temperature strength, good thermal shock resistance, high corrosion resistance to alkaline slag and high thermal heat storage capacity. It is especially suitable for high-temperature furnace with alkaline medium and large temperature fluctuation. 

 

Magnesia brick is mainly used in the middle layer of checker work and the wall in the same height. Large float glass production lines usually adopt direct bonded magnesia chrome brick in this area and has achieved good results and found wide application. To reduce the construction cost, semi-direct bonded magnesia chrome brick is used to replace the direct bonded magnesia chrome brick. Some small production lines use common magnesia chrome brick. 

 

Rebounded magnesia chrome brick and common magnesia chrome brick are used by some factories in the lower and upper checker work and the wall in the same height. The quality of magnesia chrome brick has great impact in the service life of the furnace.
